Are There Any Negatives About the Chinese iPhone 3GS? What Are the Positives? Here's My Opinion

The other day, I received an email in which the writer told me that he felt that he was “missing something” in his research about the Chinese version of the 3GS iPhone. He basically said that in all of his reading about this replica phone, he didn’t see much that he would consider a “negative,” and so he suspected that there must be a “catch” or something that he just wasn’t seeing. He wanted to know what I considered to be the pros and the cons of this phone. I will tell you what I told him in the following article.

Things That May Be Considered Negative Aspects Of The Chinese Version Of The iPhone 3GS: From what I hear from consumers, the most negative perception about this phone is the fact that it’s not the “real” model and is not the original. I would sometimes like to think that what people love about the original model are its features. But, the truth is, there are many phones today that have very similar features and yet, the Apple model is still considered the gold standard. There seems to be a subset of consumers who have negative perceptions about the clones merely because they are a copy or because they came along second.

Another thing about the Chinese model that might be considered negatively is the fact that you’re going to be using Java applications for your “apps” rather than getting online and browsing Apple’s store for the same. For some people, owning the original phone is almost like a pop culture experience. Although the knock offs and replicas can give you the same features, they can’t give you the perceived user experience that comes along with the original.

Things That May Be Considered Positive Aspects Of The iPhone 3GS From China: I can probably list the biggest positive aspect of this phone in one word alone – and that word would be money. Simply put, from the time that you buy the clone until the time that you upgrade to whatever turns out to be the next “latest model,” you are going to save money. Not only do the knock offs cost significantly less than the original version, they also free you up from the monthly expensive contract that is required on the Apple model. I believe that this is by far the biggest draw of the phones from China.

Also, there are some aspects of this phone that make it better or more desirable than some of the other clones that came before it. This one has a newer, faster chip which makes this phone more responsive. It also has both Wi-Fi and Java support, which up until recently has been lacking. This is also the availability of six pages of icons. You can navigate these by both scrolling or by flipping through. Also, the camera and web cam on this model is better than those of the past. And, this phone offers the availability of free web TV and radio. This one can also hold much more memory (32GB.)

Whether the negatives outweigh the positives or vice verse is going to depend on your individual needs and wants and on how you will use the phone. Some people decide that it really is worth it to them to continuously spend the money on the “real” original. And some come to realize that what they really want are the finger touch features and the lack commitment rather than the cost or status.
